Everest Base Camp Trek

The Everest Base Camp trek is one of the popular treks, exploring the paths where Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa travelled before they first summited Mt. Everest. This route is very famous and is visited by thousands of trekkers each year.

Highlights

  • Head through pine and cedar woods along the Dudh Kosi to Phakding
  • Excursion to Thame and Khumjung Village
  • Woods and rhododendron forests
  • Hike up the Imja Khola to Chhukung or Nangkartshang Peak
  • Hike along the Khumbu Glacier
  • Enjoy the highlight of reaching Everest Base Camp
  • Kala Pattar for sunrise views of Everest
  • Mt. Everest and another mountain view

The trail follows the Dudh Kosi River and passes through the rolling hills around a Sherpa town called Namche Bazaar. This is a popular stop for trekkers, especially for altitude acclimatization. Namche is sometimes called the Gateway to Himalaya. For acclimatization people usually excursion to Thame and Khumjung Village. The trek continues to Tengboche, which is popular for the Buddhist Tengboche Monastery, the oldest and largest Monastery in the Khumbu Region. Tengboche has a panoramic view of Mountains, including well-known peaks of Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Tawache, and Thamserku. On the way, Dingboche / Pheriche is a popular stop for trekkers and climbers headed to Mount Everest, Island Peak, or Ama Dablam. Trekkers/Climbers will typically spend two nights in Dingboche/Pheriche for acclimatization and day hike to Nangkartshang Peak. In Pheriche there is a rudimentary hospital which is opened for two trekking/climbing season (March-May and September -November).
The trek continues through Lobuche, which is situated very close to the Khumbu Glacier a good spot for scenic explorations. On the trail we will see many Sherpa local people who work transporting supplies with yaks or other means for trekkers or climbers. Gorakshep is the final stop on most common treks before Everest Base Camp. Gorakshep was originally Base Camp, but the Camp was moved closer to mountains, just below the Khumbu Ice Fall. In the early morning we will climb Kala Patthar, as it provides the most assessable point to view Mt. Everest to peak (due to the structure of Everest, the peak cannot be seen from Base Camp). The view of Everest, Nuptse and Changtse are spectacular from Kala Patthar and there are glances of the northern part and summit of Lhotse. After our time at Base Camp we will follow the same trail back to Lukla unless otherwise arranged.
